La Mélangerie

As an agricultural microbe executive and a pediatrician, Frédéric and Theresa aren’t our typical clients. They’re also not your typical maple syrup entrepreneurs. But we’re awfully glad that they are, in fact, both of these things!

After purchasing a farm outside of their home in Montreal in 2022, the couple set out to create a bucolic weekend retreat for their young family. But they bought more than just a house and some acreage – they also became the owners of over 8,000 maple trees and a fully-operational organic maple syrup operation, producing over 60 barrels (or 12,000 litres) per year. 

Eager to start selling at local markets and boutiques across the region, Theresa got in touch for help in conceptualizing and bringing to life a brand for their new family venture. We were excited to pull in our friends at Sister Mary to partner on the project, bringing a finely-honed aesthetic and attention to craft that felt just right.

Inspired by the couple’s tastes and experiences – everything from British travels to the toile wallpaper in their new cottage – we decided to conjure up a sense of place with the idea of The Gentleperson’s PubThis genteel and welcoming place is a conscious and convivial blend of all sorts of people, cultures, and ideas, and always feels like home. A true mix or mélange – hence, La Mélangerie.

 
 

Even the kids’ favorite stuffed animals informed the visual language – our fox and elephant are fast friends, and finely wrought by illustrator Mek Frinchaboy. Look closely, and you’ll find woodland berries, wild mushrooms, and maple leaves incorporated into the artwork – all cheeky nods to the family farm and surrounding flora.
